Cherisse Brown took out a £10,000 loan to launch Urbee, an e-shop aiming to raise awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinating insects and the need for their conservation.
The shop sells a range of Staffordshire fine bone China mugs, coasters, scented candles and Kent honey and seeds. All packaging is plastic free and sourced from sustainable materials. As such, her gift bags are handmade in Jute hessian with hemp cord – two of the most environmentally friendly fabrics on the planet.
As well as contributing to conservation efforts, Cherise aims to have as many products made in the UK as possible.
“Supporting the British economy is really important, and I am always striving to find ways to be more environmentally friendly,” she said.
In the future, she hopes to expand the line of products on offer and help children learn about pollinators.
