What started as a lockdown idea at a kitchen table has grown into a home fragrance and wellbeing brand stocked by more than 200 retailers across the UK and beyond thanks to a Start Up Loan.

Amy Hogarth, founder of CAHM, a Farsley-based home fragrance and wellbeing brand, has been named as the 2026 Start Up Loans Ambassador for Yorkshire and the Humber.

Amy secured a £25,000 Start Up Loan in 2024 with support from the programme’s local business support partner, the Business Enterprise Fund. She used the funding to develop the specialist outer packaging required to supply products to Booths, helping CAHM secure a listing with the retailer and opening the door to further growth opportunities.

Amy was furloughed from her job during the first Covid-19 lockdown and began making candles as a way to keep busy, using candle-making supplies she already had at home. After selling locally and receiving a positive response, she began attending farmers’ markets and festivals before growing the business enough to leave her job. CAHM now has more than 200 stockists across the UK, a shop in Farsley, and is beginning to expand internationally.

Business support for start-up and early stage businesses

Nobody has it all worked out. We make mistakes every day, but that's how we learn. Growth doesn't come from perfection, it comes from being brave, listening to your customer and iterating along the way. I never imagined CAHM would grow into the business it is today and the support I received through the Start Up Loans scheme has been an important part of that journey.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you begin. Be willing to put yourself out there, and adopt the positive attitude to learn from every experience, even when things don’t go to plan. Taking that first step is all you need to start discovering what’s possible.
