Siblings Albert, Betty and Minnie Alexander took out a loan of £22,000 in 2021 to launch Kitty’s Herbery, a perfumery based in Bude, Cornwall.

Kitty’s Herbery makes a range of high-quality, herb-based products including perfumes, toiletries, skincare, herbal teas and artisan chocolate. The founding trio all grew up in Cornwall and are committed to putting ‘Cornish vibes’ into all of their goods.

That’s why everything they make, design and sell is made with Cornwall in mind. To them, the Cornish vibe is laidback, friendly, and welcoming; it’s the sea and the sand and the weather; it’s pasties and cream teas and good beer – it’s all the things you think of when you think of Cornwall!

Albert Alexander says: “There is a huge upfront costs involved in starting a new business. We used our Start Up Loan to set up a physical shop, which is the headquarters of the business. It allows us to meet our customers on a personal level and, most importantly, it means they can smell our products.”

Betty Alexander says: “All Kitty’s Herbery products are made in our kitchen at home and sold from our shop in Bude, so you’ll struggle to find a more home grown Cornish gift. We love to introduce people to our smells, products, friends and our local area, so everyone is free to pop in for a chat or a smell!”
