Danielle and a close friend launched My Locker World in July 2016. With support and funding from Start Up Loans they were able to make their dream of always wanting to start a business a reality.
Danielle’s daughter started secondary school and wanted her own locker that she could customise herself like she had seen on American TV programs. After a fruitless search for a stylish locker in her price range, Danielle bought a locker, spray painted it herself and decorated it for her daughter. All of her daughter’s friends were amazed by her stylish locker and wanted one themselves.
After this, Danielle knew there was a market for this type of niche product. This sparked the idea of building this project into a business with her close friend. Having worked together as retail managers in the past, she already knew that they would work well together.
My Locker World is an online business and orders for lockers have been on the increase since the business started, with particularly strong demand over the Christmas period. There has been some minor setbacks along the way, where stock has been damaged in the delivery process and with customer communication issues. However, the ladies have been able to open pop-up stalls around the UK and every month they have a pop-up stall at the ITV studios in London.
Danielle has big plans for My Locker World including getting her products into stores such as John Lewis and Debenhams. She is also adding other products to her website, and has applied for the new series of Dragons Den which airs on BBC Two.
