Nicola Weeks started her bridal boutique business, George James Bridal, with the help of a £8,500 Start Up Loan.
George James Bridal is an exclusive bridal boutique based in Bedfordshire. They stock a range of exclusive bridal gowns and accessories at affordable prices.
Prior to starting her business, Nicola worked as an actress. She trained at Guildford School of Acting and then went on to establish a 12 year acting career across television, radio and theatre. Most recently, Nicola performed in the Dick Whittington Pantomime in High Wycombe.
Although Nicola has had a successful career in acting, the unpredictable nature of the job forced her to find a part-time job in order to maintain a sustainable income. To make ends meet Nicola took a part-time role in a bridal boutique. She thoroughly enjoyed working there and generated a great profit for the shop. It was during this role that Nicola decided she was going to open her own bridal boutique.
Nicola launched her boutique in January 2015. The town centre shop had previously been empty before Nicola took over the lease. She designed, painted and dressed the shop herself, and stocked it with carefully chosen dresses and accessories.
The boutique has been named after Nicola’s nephew who sadly passed away from cancer, aged just 10.
Nicola found the process of getting her Start Up Loan through Foundation East very straightforward. She described it as ‘efficient and organised’. Nicola couldn’t be happier with her mentor, Bob Shimmon, she describes him as ‘absolutely brilliant’ and ‘fantastic.’
