Ritchie Williamson, an entrepreneur with a background in project management, decided to turn his passion for video games into a career.
With the help of his Delivery Partner GLE, Ritchie launched Compare the Game, a video game aggregator to help you source the best games on the market whilst saving you time and money. While mainly designed to showcase game offers, the site also features new game trailers, news and gameplay, as well as the UK games charts based on unit sales.
Each game featured comes with details of the game itself, videos of the gameplay, what platforms it is available on and then a list of retailers, showing the prices the game can be bought for. Customers can also sign up for a newsletter to get news of game offers and sale prices direct to their inbox.
He found it difficult to access funding initially after being turned down by banks for the initial cash injection. In fact he nearly gave up on the dream altogether. His luck changed when he came across the Start Up Loans Company on the news. He felt that he had really identified a gap in the market and was confident he could add value to gamers. He used his Start Up Loan to supplement marketing costs, and add new features to his website.
“The Start Up Loans scheme has taken my business to a whole new level, not only in helping to fund it with a repayable loan, but by providing a business mentor. It is also a vote of confidence, which has really encouraged me to put in the long hours it takes to make it a success – not that video gaming will ever feel like hard work to me.”
